FAQ
DERMA GENESIS® Microdermabrasion uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dry and dead outermost layer of skin. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft and smooth. This also improves the performance of any additional procedures you may have, and optimises the penetration of serums and moisturisers.
The procedure is performed by using a handheld device that is passed over the skin. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin, and at the same time the underlying epidermis is stimulated by the abrasion and vacuum, promoting new collagen production.
Medical Microdermabrasion can be taken as a ‘one off’ to prep the skin for further treatments, or simply to brighten the skin.
The number of treatments will be determined by the skin condition being treated and your desired results. The number of treatments can vary from 4-12, depending on the severity of your condition and treatment goals. Acne scars require the greatest number of treatments.
Microdermabrasion treatments are usually performed 7-10 days apart. It is vitally important that you adhere to the schedule that is developed for you, as waiting longer than 14 days between treatments can interfere with your progress.
Following your DERMA GENESIS® Microdermabrasion treatment the skin will appear slightly red and tight; this is a normal response, which should settle within an hour. Just occasionally, and depending on your skin type, this can last for a little longer, but should be no more than 48 hours. Another common reaction of the skin is that 3-5 days after a treatment, the skin may become slightly dry or even peel a little on problem areas. This is a good reaction to have, as it means the new skin cells have been encouraged to the surface, and are pushing away more of the damaged and dead cells.
